About
O Grows
O Grows is a community food initiative started in 2012 at Southview Primary School by Dr. Sean Forbes as way to create garden spaces in schools for students. Since then, we have grown into a community garden, farmers market, and community event space, working alongside our community to enliven our local food system. Learn more about what we're doing below!
What does O Grows do?
O Grows has worked in a number of initiatives across our city. From our start with school gardens to the Opelika Strawberry Festival, we work with our community to make fresh, local food available and affordable.
Grow more to give more
We partner with the Lee County Extension to track the produce that we donate to our neighbors at the East Alabama Community Food Bank, the Opelika Senior Center, and more.
Community Garden
At 1103 Glenn St, we operate a community garden where community members can rent plots yearly to grow their own fruits and vegetables.
Opelika Farmers Market
We operate the Opelika Farmers Market in the courthouse square in the summer and fall. We host local makers, bakers, creators, and growers.
Educational Workshops and Events
Throughout the year, we partner with local organizations to put on educational garden-related workshops as well as craft workshops.
